I received an unexpected call from the IRS a few weeks ago.

They were calling about a client, and just wanted to verify my CAF (Central Authorization File) number before telling me the name of the client and what the issue was.

The IRS warns that communications aren't initiated via telephone.

So, I asked, how can I verify this isn't a scam? She replied that I would receive an official letter from the IRS in the mail.

It never arrived, but that could just be IRS delays. Important to be careful with all the impersonation scams these days.
