Did you ever miss the tax deadline by a hair, since you kept on putting off that trip to the post office?
Part of my process in the rare instances when returns have to be paper filed is to tell the client that I will mail out the returns myself. Before I implemented this, I found that some people had mailed out their return months late, or not at all!
Especially when dealing with international mail, this has to be done carefully to make sure it actually gets to the IRS, and in time. (I use FedEx which takes 2 days to reach the IRS offices in the US from Israel).
This process also ensures that all the forms are attached, and in the right order.
A few weeks ago, it was very disheartening for me to hear from an out of town client, who wasn't able to bring me her hand signed tax return to mail myself.
She was wondering why she got a letter that she had missed the refund deadline. Turns out that she missed it by a few days.
I believe this to be an integral part of our service, and it helps to make the tax filing process much more user friendly and pain free.
