Sometimes it's a bit shocking to hear how clueless some people are about tax filing responsibilities, and how the US immigration system works.
A non-US citizen called me today, asking if I could help them apply for US citizenship so they could be eligible to claim the refundable child tax credit.
They had no US citizen relatives, and had no plans to ever relocate to the US. They had never even visited the US.
Nor did they realize how hard it is to qualify for a green card.
They thought it's some sort of simple application process with no requirement to move to the US.
I take this as a reminder to be kind and courteous to answer all sorts of questions a random clueless layman may somehow think of.
