No, I'm not the cheapest tax accountant out there. So price shoppers can move on. But listen to this:
Recently a potential client reached out to me. She told me that her old accountant was extremely hard to get through to, and wanted me to take over her tax filings.
I agreed, heard about her tax situation, and gave a price quote.
It was a shock when she told me that she had been previously paying $1,000 per year for preparing her returns. (My quote was a fraction of that).
Her return reported income of about $30,000 on a W-2 as regular wages, that's it. A fairly simple return. He also hadn't inquired about foreign accounts at all, and paper filed the returns. High price, low quality and service.
Such a high price for a relatively simple return, especially in the case of the low income of the taxpayer, was quite a shock for me. I feel like it borders on robbery for those that don't know that a cheaper option exists.
